Dress for Success Worldwide
Since 2009, Cintas has partnered with Dress for Success Worldwide, an international non-profit organization that helps disadvantaged women achieve self-sufficiency.
A Natural Fit
Nearly two years ago, Alisia Pulella, Global Account Manager of Gaming at Cintas, came into contact with Paige Candee, founder of Dress for Success Southern Nevada. Candee had just received 501(c)(3) approval and was looking for help to get the branch up and running. Immediately falling in love with the cause, Pulella recruited a bunch of Cintas colleagues and—together with Candee—turned the Nevada location into a thriving, beautiful boutique that has served more than 50 women since its inception in 2010.
“It’s extremely gratifying to help disadvantaged women in Southern Nevada become self-sufficient through employment opportunities,” said Pulella. “It enables them to become better role models for their children and see their hard work pay off every day in wonderful ways. Furthermore, our team’s involvement in Dress for Success has also fine-tuned our management skills and allowed our sales team to become more involved in our community. I am extremely proud of the individual and group involvement our Cintas team brings to Dress for Success of Southern Nevada.”
Cintas has long supported Dress for Success locally in Cincinnati. The international not-for-profit outfits disadvantaged women with professional attire for interviews and offers the career development and networking support they need to succeed in today’s workplace. Internationally, the organization has helped more than 550,000 women who range in age from 18 to 60 and are often single mothers.
The Dress for Success Southern Nevada branch has grown leaps and bounds since its creation in 2010. With extensive financial and volunteer support from Cintas employees—many of whom serve as board members for the organization—new career opportunities have paved the way for women in Las Vegas, Henderson and beyond. A natural fit for the branch, Cintas provides floor mats, suiting and first aid supplies to the branch in addition to the support from employees.
“Dressing” Women—Inside and Out
Under the guidance of image consultants, such as Melissa Magny and Tamara Uzstan from Cintas, women referred to Dress for Success are given a stylish suit and possibly a purse and accessories for their already scheduled job interview. Right up until the big day, the women receive interview training and resume building support, and once the job is secured, a week’s worth of work apparel is provided. Afterwards, volunteers at Dress for Success offer career counseling to teach women about financial literacy, continuing education and other necessary workplace skills, giving them the confidence they need to succeed.
A notable success for the Southern Nevada branch has been the formation of the Little Black Dress Club, a social group that creates a tier for donating. Depending on the amount pledged by an individual, the donor can receive entrance to Little Black Dress events, their name on the branch website, tickets in opportunity drawings, a spa treatment and an exclusive lunch with an inspirational woman. Monthly contributions range from $25 to $500 commitments, with satin, silk, suede, velvet and cashmere tiers. The club has proved to be an enormous success and will soon be implemented at all Dress for Success branches nationwide.
With the aid of corporate donors and community volunteers, giving back gets a whole new look. The combined efforts of all involved have allowed Dress for Success of Southern Nevada to shape and prepare women for a bright future. A long term goal of opening a career center ensures that this branch is well on its way to becoming a standout affiliate for the organization that prides itself on “Going Places, Going Strong.”
