Training and quick reactions save a life
During a recent Cintas partner luncheon in Tulsa the jovial banter stopped abruptly as a partner suddenly clutched at his throat, gasping for breath and unable to speak. Trained in First Aid and CPR through a number of Cintas classes, Adam Simmons went to his aid. As the choking man was helped to his feet, Adam calmly performed the Heimlich maneuver. Seconds later, the cherry tomato lodged in the partner’s throat was expelled, allowing him to breathe. What could have been a life-threatening condition was quickly averted by Adam’s cool resolve.
"I just did what anyone else would do," Adam later explained, crediting his swift response to his First Aid and CPR training from Cintas. "The steps just came naturally as I recalled what I’d learned." As this incident vividly showed, first aid training can sometimes mean the difference between life and death in the workplace, in public or at home. Cintas is an authorized provider of American Heart Association training courses and programs. The same life-saving training provided to Adam is available online, through self-guided training modules, or through a Cintas instructor.
Like Adam Simmons, Cintas Heroes are everyday people doing extraordinary things. The third recipient of the award, Adam is a Stockroom Supervisor at Location 63 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Congratulations, Adam!
