2010 Nominees - January

Scoey Butler: Cintas Hero Nominee
York, PA — Scoey sensed that something was not right while servicing one of his accounts on 11/23/09. Instead of walking away he went back in to the restaurant to find someone. He kept yelling until he found the waitresses locked in the freezer where they had been for over an hour after being robbed. What makes this story so different and unique is not the fact that Scoey was the person who let the waitresses out of the freezer. The simple fact that Scoey went back in and walked around until he found someone instead of walking away when he sensed there was something wrong. Most people would have walked away as soon as they noticed that the place was deserted. A brave act from Scoey.

Larry Zaremba: Cintas Hero Nominee
Denver, CO — Our eyewash partner Larry Zaremba was stopped at a light when a car behind him lost control and slammed into a concrete barrier. Larry tried to open the driver’s door but it was locked. He then went to the passenger side and opened it, reached across, unlocked the door and unlatched the seat belt. The air bag had been deployed. He took the man out and laid him down. Larry thought the man was probably in his 70’s. He checked and found no pulse or breathing. He immediately started CPR. The police showed up and told him he was doing a great job and to continue and they would direct traffic. Larry thinks he performed CPR between 15 to 20 minutes before the Paramedics showed up. By that time the man had begun to breathe again and was responsive. The Paramedics thanked Larry for his efforts and took the gentleman to the hospital. Larry said he had wondered if he was ever put in the position to use his CPR skills would he remember how to, but he said it all came back to him instantly and he felt very comfortable with all he did. He is very grateful he was able to help this gentleman and in turn this gentleman’s family.
