2009 Nominees - September

Jim McNeill: Cintas Hero Nominee
Rochester, NY — Jim McNeill a First Aid & Safety SSR was on his way home from work on September 3, 2009. He pulled over to a car accident and proceeded to use his First Aid skills and training. The truck in front of him had flipped over 5 times and the driver had a bad head injury. EMS got there 10 minutes later. Jim had to imobilize his head and treat his head wound using the first aid supplies from his van. Jim should be recognized as a Cintas Hero for putting himself in harm's way and responding to such a bad accident to help a person in need.

Chris Carney: Cintas Hero Nominee
Valencia, CA — On 7/1/09 SSR Chris Carney was out on route when a shooting took place in a dental office near one of his stops. One of the shooting victims was bleeding badly from an entrance/exit gunshot wound on his abdomen. Police were busy with the gunman who had barricaded himself inside the office and the paramedics had not yet arrived. Chris took some center pull towels and gloves from his truck and administered first aid by applying pressure to the wound, controlling the bleeding until EMTs arrived.

Timmy Oller: Cintas Hero Nominee
Macon, GA — Timmy was attending a pool party where a two and a half year old child fell out of her ring and sank to the bottom of the pool unnoticed. After some time Timmy sees the girl lying at the bottom of the pool. He swims down and pulls the non responsive girl from the pool. He attempts CPR and cannot get air into girl’s lungs. After doing finger sweep notices water leaving her mouth. He begins CPR again and after sometime revives the child who recovers fully.

Earl "EJ" Floyd: Cintas Hero Nominee
Macon, GA — While in route to an inspection EJ saw a car that appeared to have an intoxicated driver behind the wheel. EJ took it upon himself to attempt to get the driver to pull over before he hurt himself or someone else. EJ continued to follow him and called 911, after a few miles the driver hit a car head on and smashed into a tree. EJ pulled over and opened the driver’s door taking his keys from the ignition and pulling him out of the vehicle performing a citizen arrest until the officer arrived. He pulled the man out of his vehicle after taking the keys from the ignition. The man had just had a head on collision with another car and smashed into a tree himself. This entire time EJ was on the phone with 911 updating them on the minute by minute happenings. He held the man in custody until the officer arrived. At that time the officer arrested the man thanking EJ for all he had done for society. EJ then advised the officer that he was a retired EMS and Collier County Fire Inspector and hurried over to the person in the car that was struck by the drunk driver, making sure he was alright. He stayed with the injured victim until the paramedics arrived. Everyone at our location was so blown away by this situation that I had to let more people hear of the heroic actions EJ Floyd showed to his fellow citizens. He may have saved many more lives from being hurt or possibly killed by this man, who after hitting the tree was trying to get on to the interstate and drive away from the accident.
